Buddy & I (Carolyn) so enjoyed camping @ Camp Ben from our young married life together, having/taking our babies w/us each yr. & then those children soon grew into teenagers & then into their own adult years. We would go at least a wk. earlier than the Camp Ben start date & stay for 2 wks. to visit all our elders, friends, families, get caught up on "happenings" from during the year since the previous Camp Ben, swim & appreciate such a jewel of history. Our "spot", the Grumbles camp area, was/is under the first cedar on the right when you drove down Camp Ben "lane". As our children grew into young adults, our son, Richard & wife, Michelle Grumbles now are repeating our history by taking their family, William & Justin & camping under the same ol' cedar tree; doing the same thing the generations before them did. Maybe in a few years, William, Justin & thier families will carry on generations of Grumbles' @ Camp Ben!!! What memories of a wonderful place in our lives!

We go here every Summer just to camp and hang out. This place is so peaceful and nobody really bothers you at your campsite. We've always had a blast and look forward to coming back next Summer!!

What a neat thing it is finding this website. It certainly brings back some wonderful memories of camping at "the Reunion" with my Uncle Dayton & Aunt Naomi Roberts. The pictures in my mind of those long ago days are very vivid. Getting up the nerve to swing off on the rope over the creek and drop - Aunt Naomi (aka "Foofie") saving me by washing my legs with alcohol after I veered into some poison ivy! Thanks for the memories - I'm glad to know this still goes on every year. The whole shebang is really special in more ways than I can count.

I remember coming to Camp Ben as a child with friends of our family(Duran's)from South Austin.I had no idea what it was at the time but that memory has stayed with me all these years, about 50 years. The Older Roach family probably was one of the first families of Camp Ben.We've been coming as a family now for about 22 years and love the fellowship, the downhome atmosphere, Bingo and seeing people we only get to see at Camp Ben.I know our kids will keep the tradition going, they love Camp Ben.God Bless Camp Ben for many more years!

I made an error in the first message, I meant to say that my other great-grandfather was Watt Puryear, also a Confederate soldier from Hays Cty. Thom Quick from Mt.Gainer was my grandfather, and Tom Puryear from Dripping Springs was my grandfather.

My great-grandfather, JacobQuick, was one of the first officers. My other great-grandfather, Thom Quick, was Camp Commander for 20 yrs. My father, John Quick, and my mother, Alberta Puryear Quick camped for most of their lives and my fondest memories of my youth were weeks at the Reunion, swimming all day and dancing half the night, and sleeping under the stars. Alberta is still living, at 95 yrs. of age, and we will be attending the meeting on Tuesday.

The Julius Arthur Johnson family members have been attending since I was six years old. About 58 years! It has always been a pleasure to renew old acquaintances and friends.

My mother is 92 and has been coming to the reunion for at least 50 years. She did dance but is a little too arthritic for that now. We love the carnival and just the family atmosphere.
